As a former longtime partner at Covington & Burling (AmLaw 50), our Founder Lee Tiedrich has helped companies across industry sectors with pioneering new technologies and other matters through corporate, regulatory, intellectual property, policy, and other strategic advice. She understands market practices and business dynamics, including making tradeoffs and decisions in the face of uncertainty. She has Board experience , in addition to serving in other strategic advisory roles. She co-led one of the first AmLaw 50 global and multi-disciplinary AI Initiatives.
Technology and Risk Management Expertise
In addition to studying electrical engineering at Duke and leveraging her engineering background in three decades of legal practice, Lee served as a Senior AI Advisor at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and a Senior Adviser to the 2025 and 2026 International AI Safety Reports (Safety Reports), which were led by Turning Award Winner Yoshua Bengio and supported by more than 30 countries and multilateral organizations. Public Sector and Global Policy Experience
In addition to her experience with NIST, the Safety Reports and her legal practice, Lee served as an OECD consultant, and in this role, co-authored a report on AI and IP adopted by all OECD and GPAI countries. She also engages with US and global policymakers and holds leadership positions in GPAI/OECD expert groups.
Legal Experience
Adding to her 30 years of AmLaw 50 practice, Lee has presented CLEs on AI to US judges and taught at 2 top ten law schools. She is admitted to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Complementing her private and public sector work, Lee pioneered AI multidisciplinary education, including experiential learning, at leading universities to help prepare our next generation of leaders. Her work includes teaching cross-disciplinary teams how to collaborate and tackle emerging technology matters. This work can be adapted for other types of organizations.
